The specially alloyed steel and the exact heat treatment guarantee pronounced elasticity with a high level of hardness. When subjected to excessive stresses the PB Swiss Tools pin punches deform elastically and plastically and do not suddenly break off (no danger of an accident).
Centre punches made of tool steel are only suitable for working on materials < 40° HRC. For harder materials, you should use centre punches with tungsten carbide tips (see illustration).
