My Classic handle has an unpleasant odor. What is the cause of this?
When stored in airtight containers such as drawers and tool cases, handles made from the modified natural cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) substance develop an unpleasant odor. The development of an odor is not linked to the material properties, i.e. the product remains qualitatively sound in terms of its functionality. To neutralize the odor, we add a discreet vanilla fragrance to our CAB handles.
What does the IEC number on VDE screwdrivers represent?
This is a type approval in line with the international IEC standards. The approval is only issued once the VDE screwdriver successfully passes the mechanical and electrical safety tests carried out by the testing institute.
Do the VDE screwdrivers produced by PB Swiss Tools undergo testing that is more stringent than the VDE specifications?
We subject all of our newly produced series to various tests that are specified by the standard. For example, all of the new VDE screwdrivers undergo visual testing, flammability testing and impact testing. We also test each of our products individually in a water quench. We carry out further tests at random on each series.
When should I use an insulated tool?
You should use an insulated tool for your own protection when working on live objects at voltages of up to 1000 VAC/1500 VDC. VDE screwdrivers made from non-conductive materials guarantee the highest level of safety – particularly if there is a risk of electric shock – as they meet the requirements set out by the Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies.
In what way is a screwdriver insulated?
VDE screwdrivers feature insulation made from plastic that extends all the way to the blade. This reduces the risk of an electric shock. There are also screwdrivers that are specially designed for use in electrical installations and are approved for work on live parts. They are labeled with the VDE symbol.
Do VDE screwdrivers prevent electric shocks?
VDE screwdrivers prevent electric shocks if they are used up to a permitted voltage of 1000 VAC/1500 VDC and are undamaged. Carry out a visual test to check for any external defects in the insulation before each use.
What is the difference between calibration and adjustment?
Adjusting is where a comparative measurement is carried out on the tool and if there is a deviation, the torque tool is recalibrated. During the calibration process, only a comparative measurement that provides evidence of the accuracy of the tool is carried out.
How often should I calibrate my torque screwdriver?
We recommend recalibrating once per year or after 5000 uses.
Why did my torque screwdriver fail an external test?
PB Swiss Tools carries out a factory calibration for every torque tool in accordance with the latest DIN EN ISO 6789:2017 standard. This includes a release aligned exactly with a defined continuous rotational speed. All PB Swiss Tools torque tools can be adjusted using a suitable measuring system. We recommend adjusting and calibrating the tools once per year, regardless of their use. Should a torque tool not meet the calibration requirements, the tool can be readjusted and recalibrated.
